We are a small group of volunteers, not a large rescue business.  We are people who care, who put the animals first.

The American Wildlife Refuge helps rescue birds of prey, rehabilitate raptors, release rehabilitated birds, provide a refuge for birds that can’t be released, and educate the public about raptors in the Triangle and beyond. We also provide educational presentations to the public.

Private events for educational purposes to youth groups, service groups, scouting groups, home schools, churches, private parties, parks, libraries, schools, and other groups are available for a nominal fee, and can be tailored to your curriculum.  All proceeds from shows and donations are spent entirely on the care or the birds and maintaining the refuge facilities.

See our Facebook page to learn more and schedule a Porth Visit!

We’re busy planning the next generation of the American Wildlife Refuge – and we welcome your help. By joining as a New Founding Member, you’ll be assured of getting the inside scoop on all the birds and the new facilities as we build over the year ahead.  You’ll also enjoy a specially hosted Three-Bird Porch Visit at a location of your choice, a $60 value.

•          A New Founding Member Lifetime Membership costs $300 per family.

•          An annual individual membership is $30.

•          We also accept any contribution to help us keep the Refuge running. Our feed budget alone is $500 a week
